On Tuesday, February 5, 2008, a capacity crowd of more than 40 people - consisting of a variety of professional advisors and startup businesses -- attended the inaugural "INCubation Briefing" hosted by the Firm's INCubation Center®. The theme of the Briefing was "Building Blocks of a Successful Business." Presenters included Timothy Swanson, BNC National Bank ("Financing Your Business Idea"), Michael Yellen, Simma Flottemesch and Orenstein ("Accounting Essentials for New Businesses") and Jeff Stone, Altera Law Group ("The Importance of Intellectual Property for New Businesses").
"The number of attendees far exceeded our best expectations for the Briefing", said senior associate Jeffrey O'Brien who, along with the Firm's CEO, Earl Cohen, directs the INCubation Center® program. "The success of this first program provides a strong foundation of support for our future Briefings."
The next INCubation Briefing, "Estate and Succession Planning for Business Owners: The Importance of Early Planning," will take place in late April or early May. Check the March 2008 edition of eWatch for the exact date.
The INCubation Center® is a comprehensive program designed to give entrepreneurs and new and emerging small businesses access to the services and advisors necessary to achieve success. It focuses on a threefold approach which includes: (i) provision of essential legal services within a fee structure specially designed to work within a startup business' budget; (ii) referrals to a team of strategic partners for other essential services; and (iii) educational opportunities tailored to the needs of startup businesses.
