Mansfield Tanick & Cohen Becomes Active in MHA and CIC Midwest
Mansfield Tanick & Cohen attorneys have made the most out of the Firm's first year memberships in the Minnesota Multi Housing Association ("MHA") and its affiliated organization, Common Interest Community (CIC) Midwest. Their activities include:
• Jeffrey O'Brien serves on MHA's Professional Education Committee (which plans continuing education for MHA's members) and its Legal Committee (which is presently engaged in revising MHA's standard form residential lease agreement);
• O'Brien also serves on CIC Midwest's Planning Committee, Education Subcommittee and the Publications Subcommittee;
• O'Brien and MT&C shareholder Marshall Tanick co-authored an article in the Fall 2007 CIC Midwest News entitled "Tips and Traps Dealing With Pets", discussing the do's and don'ts of pet restrictions in homeowners associations;
• O'Brien and MT&C shareholder Gregory Miller took part in MHA's annual golf tournament on August 14. 2007; and
• O'Brien and MT&C shareholder Earl H. Cohen spoke in separate sessions at MHA's 2007 Fall Convention. Cohen co-presented "How to Minimize Taxes on Your Real Estate Holdings", and O'Brien presented "Rental Issues in CIC - Legal Issues."
• In addition to his presentation at the 2007 Fall Convention, O'Brien has taught courses for landlords and property managers including an evictions class in Litchfield, Minnesota, and a fair housing class in Willmar, Minnesota.
The MHA is a state-wide nonprofit trade organization for the multi-housing industry. With nearly 2,100 members representing more than 250,000 housing units, MHA offers a variety of services to support the industry. CIC Midwest, an affiliated organization of MHA, is a unique organization that has brought together developers, accountants, insurance agents, attorneys, service providers, management companies, board members and homeowners to promote greater knowledge of the common interest community ("CIC") industry for all.
