Altera Law Group Further Enhances Firm's Network

On December 1, 2007, Altera Law Group will officially begin officing in the downtown office of Mansfield Tanick & Cohen. While Altera, a law firm specializing in intellectual property and related law, will not serve in an "of counsel" role with Mansfield Tanick & Cohen, its presence will allow the two firms to work together on a host of client matters. In particular, Altera will be able to service clients of Mansfield Tanick &Cohen's Business INCubation Center® regarding their emerging intellectual property.

Altera's move is just the latest in a number of network affiliations, of counsels and out-of-state admissions which have established Mansfield Tanick &Cohen's presence among national and international law firms and allow the firm to provide services outside of its traditional niche. Other such examples of these affiliations include:

An of counsel relationship with the Law Office of Lawrence P. Schaefer (employment class actions).
Of counsel relationships with the firm of Mack and Santana, and former State Representative Andy Dawkins (both in the area of family law).
The firm's membership in Lawyers Associated Worldwide ("LAW"), an association of independent law firms located in more than 100 major commercial centers throughout the world. Membership in LAW allows Mansfield Tanick & Cohen to service the legal needs of clients that are expanding their operations and relationships into new domestic and foreign markets because of the increasing globalization of the business world. Consumer Law Conference a Success

Mansfield Tanick & Cohen attorney Charles A. Horowitz, along with Mansfield Tanick & Cohen "of counsel" attorneys Lawrence Schaefer and Ben Elwood of the Law Office of Lawrence P. Schaefer, participated in the 16th annual Litigation Conference of the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC), which took place between November 15 and 18, 2007. The conference, as is typical, focused on abusive and predatory lending practices in the home and auto loan field. In light of the current subprime mortgage meltdown, the conference this year placed a special emphasis on issues arising from home foreclosures. Other topics attracting significant interest were one-sided arbitration clauses, which as a practical matter restrict access to justice for individuals who have been victimized in the banking, lending, electronic commerce and insurance fields. Highlights of the conference included a presentation by Massachusetts Representative Hon. Barney Frank, who discussed pending legislation in Congress, and intensive seminars concerning how to detect and litigate violations of the federal Truth in Lending Act and the federal Fair Debt Collection Act. By all measures, the conference was a great success, with a record attendance of more than 800 private practitioners, attorneys general and representatives of legal aid clinics from all across the country.

Mansfield Tanick & Cohen has long been involved with representing restaurant clients, and two Mansfield Tanick & Cohen clients have recently opened new restaurants within the Twin Cities:

Porterhouse Steaks and Seafood: Lakeville

On November 8, 2007, a second location of Porterhouse Steaks and Seafood officially opened in Lakeville, Minnesota. Mansfield Tanick & Cohen attorney Jeffrey O'Brien assisted in the acquisition of the real estate upon which the restaurant was constructed, and on November 7, 2007 he and fellow Mansfield Tanick and Cohen attorney Steven Rose, together with their spouses, attended a pre-opening dinner event.

Harvey's Bar and Grill Remodeled in the Warehouse District

Also re-opening for business is Harvey's Bar and Grill, which was recently acquired and by another Mansfield Tanick & Cohen client. Harvey's, located in Minneapolis' Warehouse District, at 106 N. Third Street, is known for its all-American menu, great happy hour and hopping bar scene.

Two Guys From Italy Eatery

Danny Sarno of Two Guys From Italy fame, formerly of Edina and White Bear Lake has opened a new concept, Two Guys From Italy Eatery, with many old favorites, in Apple Valley. The atmosphere is casual and provides a great location for lunch and dinner with happy hour (beer and wine) and family specials.

Upcoming Events

Mansfield Tanick & Cohen attorney Jeffrey O'Brien will teach "Fair Housing Laws" on December 11, 2007 in Willmar, Minnesota. The program is sponsored by the Minnesota Multi Housing Association ("MHA"). Mr. O'Brien is active in MHA and currently serves on its Professional Education Committee and its Legal Committee.
